Logline

Three centuries into a one-way crossing, the last generation aboard a failing colony ship discovers the world they were built to inherit no longer needs them.

Voyager 331 left a dying orbit with eleven thousand people and a promise: their grandchildren would walk on ground. Three hundred years later the promise is a bureaucracy — rationed air, inherited debt, and a governing council that has learned that a population which believes in arrival is easier to manage than one that does not.

When a maintenance engineer finds evidence that the destination was settled generations ago by faster ships launched after them, the ship's fragile social contract begins to come apart. What follows is not a mutiny so much as an argument: about who owns a future that has already been spent.

Story & World

The ship is not a set. It is an economy: air credits, hull labor, birth allocations, and a legal system built around the fact that nobody can leave.

Technology aboard Voyager 331 is three hundred years old and repaired by people who no longer understand it — engineering as folk religion, with maintenance rites, apprenticeships, and heresies.

I wanted a science fiction film where the crisis is administrative before it is violent. The most frightening thing about a closed system is how reasonable each decision looks from inside it.
